Time for a catch up! Monday evening in Mosterio we walked 🚶♀️to two places that had been recommended for dinner, both were closed so it was back to the village cafe for the usual cheese sandwich. We met the 84 year old's daughter and grandson, both of whom spoke very good English. Before we left the old lady, Emmeline, insisted on a photo. She let me know she thought Jay would be a good match for her grandson! Embarrassment and much laughter followed.
Breakfast yesterday morning was cooked by our host Isobel, scrambled eggs - yum. We then set out on our 23km walk through villages, forests and country lanes to Sao Pedro de Rates. At San Miguel we met Louise from Palmerston North, NZ, much to Jay's amazement, someone from her own home town, out in a rural area of Portugal.
Then Jerry and Graeme from Sydney arrived.Jerry lived in Palmy for two years. Every day something wonderful or interesting happens on the Camino. We eventually arrived in Sao Pedro and after discovering all the restaurants were closed we settled for a pilgrim's meal , three courses with wine for 10Euro.
Today was a shorter walk to Barcelos, but in the heat it was tough going. I think yesterday caught up with us. The scenery today was lovely, ancient bridges, gates to nowhere, secret door in a wall, and of course, all the usual churches.
This area is having a week of Fiestas, there is a fair in town that Jay was very tempted to support financially!! Instead we settled for dinner. Jay's been quite proud of being the youngest person we have seen on the Camino. But that changed today when we met a Dutch family of 3 generations, grandparents, parents, and two children, 10 &7. They started in Porto. Our accommodation here is right in the centre of the old city.
