From Albergaria A Nova to Sao Jaoa de Maderia on a very hot day. We passed through the heritage site of Bompasta, to Oliveria de Azemeis. On the way Edwina took a wrong turning and got lost. Jay and I have a rule. Jay leads but has to keep checking I am in site. I, in turn make sure Edwina is following on. At one tight turn I checked Edwina was following and continued on. A little while later I stopped and waited.... and waited. Then doubled back to where I had last seen her. She was nowhere to be seen! I went back to find Jay had come looking for me so we started a second search. Still no luck. Edwina doesn't have mobile roaming and didn't get a local Sim card so we had no way of contacting her. We had to continue and trust that she would find her way, which she eventually did, much to our relief. This was the second time she has got lost.
Much of today's walk was on pavement, up steep hills, down the other side. You know that if you are heading downhill, you can guarantee you will be heading uphill again very soon. But there were some nice parts, a medieval bridge, churches, gardens. The town we are in is a centre for industrial tourism. After a long day Jay and I deserved McDs for tea!
