We woke to a wet day and it rained all the way to Azambuja, nearly 20kms. A least our packs were dry as once again we had our backpacks transported ahead of us. Staying somewhere a little better tonight, twin rooms with our own bathrooms, such luxury. The cost, E25 each including breakfast! Lots of walking along tracks beside the railway today, it would have been quite pleasant if it was not raining. Stopped at Carregado and Vila Nova da Rainha along the way.
At breakfast this morning we were give a lecture on the role of the Knights Templar in Portugal. Very interesting. I noticed our host was wearing an interesting cross, he told me he was invited to join the Knights Templar when he was at school. They are still active in the area.
Tomorrow we head to Santarem, 30kms away and the forecast is for more rain. We cannot find anyone to transport our bags as petrol is very scarce, so it will be a very long day.Not a great day for taking photos.
What did the Camino teach me today? Let the Camino lead the way, let the Camino guide your quite times of reflection.
Leaving Vila Franca de Xria. The photo says it all. Azambuja at last.
