One important lesson learned on the Camino is realising how you can live with very little. Since we started I have ditched two merino T Shirts and a fleece jacket, all surplus to requirements. I survive with two merino T Shirts, two sets of undies, a pair of shorts and a pair of trousers that convert to shorts, two pairs of walking socks and one pair of socks for evenings. Apart from a minimum of toiletries, that's it. One of the first things I do when we arrive at our accommodation is check out drying facilities, will I be able to wash and dry gear overnight. So far so good. When there is a balcony I rejoice, unless like today there is a notice asking pilgrims not to hang clothes on the balcony!
Our daily routine rarely varies. It's up at 7am, pack up and out by 8am to find breakfast. We are usually on the road by 8.30am. In the afternoon it's shower and wash clothes, get gear ready for the morning, then rest and find dinner. This afternoon Jay and I spent a very pleasant hour or two sitting outside reading and enjoying a drink. Life is pretty simple on the Camino. It's a reality check about all the unnecessary items we accumulate.
PS. When I get to Santiago I am buying a new top and skirt!
