Tomar to Cortica

We arrived in Tomar on Holy Saturday looking forward to a rest day on Easter Sunday. Our accommodation was in a lovely old building in the main street leading to the town square. George, our host was very welcoming and even did our advance bookings.Saturday night we had dinner in an Italian restaurant, excellent meal of steak. My iron fix for the week. Sunday three of the ladies got a bus to Fatima. The rest of us watched a very moving procession complete with bands, banners, people carrying crowns and rose petals being thrown from balconies. They were all headed to the church so by the time we got there it was standing room only, if you could find a place to stand.

After Mass we went exploring and met fellow Kiwis, Peter and Sue White from Rotorua. They too are on the Camino. Sit in any cafe on the Camino and you soon recognise fellow pilgrims. This time it was the accents, Kathmandu clothing and casual dress.

Photos. A floral cross laid on street outside our hotel. Tomar was a stronghold of the Knights Templar. The crowns carried in the procession represent the Template successors, Knights of Christ. Church in the main square. Tomar castle and aquaduct. Constantine 's favourite occupation.
