We Are So Privileged

Between Porto and Caminha we met many pilgrims of all ages from around the world. From Lisbon to Porto we met no more than 20 pilgrims, including two from NZ. Many people start their pilgrimage in Porto or Tui therefore the Way is now much busier. As I walked towards Caminha I could help but think about the tens of thousands of refugees who are on a different kind of pilgrimage - one of survival, a place of safety for themselves and their families. Hamilton has become a place of safety for refugees from Colombia, Somalia, Burma, Afghanistan, DRCongo,Rwanda. Many of them have family members still in refugee camps. We are so very privileged to have the means and time to choose to make a pilgrimage in safety and not out of desperation. May I invite you to help reunite some of our refugee families by visiting the holyblisters.co.nz site and make a donation based on the number of kms we have walked each day. Yesterday it was 30kms but tomorrow it will be 17 kms. The donation is to the Waikato Refugee Whanau Reunification Trust via our Give a little page and is tax deductible.
