After 27 days walking, 5 rest days and over 650 kms we arrived in Santiago de Compostela yesterday around 11.30am. There was a real sense of excitement on the track with some younger pilgrims running on ahead - until they got to the first hill. Win and Chrissy were there to meet us and take the obligatory photos. We checked into our appartment, had lunch and did a little exploring. Today we went to the pilgrims' Mass at the Church of St Francis. Hundreds of ordinary people from around the world, all of whom have done something extra ordinary. It was an emotional experience, sitting there bringing to mind all the people I have prayed for during my journey, and all those who have prayed for us. Fr Mark Field arrived today and will be celebrating Mass in the morning. Unfortunately, we had prebooked to go to Finisterre tomorrow so went to Mass this evening. (Two homilies in Spanish on the same day deserves some form of indulgence surely.)
Arrival at 0kms! The Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela is closed for renovation so the pilgrims Mass was held at the Church of Saint Francis.
We arrived during a Galicia independence rally. Molly Moo and Constantine came too. Contrary to expectations there were no holy or blessed blisters. All thanks to hikers' wool, Vaseline and Wrightsocks purchased in Cambridge.
