Porto was great, but it is really good to be away from the crowds, traffic and noise. Yesterday we had a relaxing day touring Porto on a hop on hop off bus.
An easy way to see different parts of the city. Last night in we unexpectedly bumped into Don (from the Isle of Wight) in a cafe. This morning we shared a taxi with him to take us to the outskirts of the city. Don has done the Central route before so knew where we should start, he is doing the coastal route and both routes start in the same place. It's only when you get out in the suburbs you realize how big Porto is. We then walked to Mosterio, a small village with character. Our hostel is a lovely old building. The owner, Isobel is delightful. I've just been for a walk around the village, including through the cemetery, which is fascinating.
Whenever I research someone I try to visit their grave because I think it tells you alot about the person and their relationships. Check out the graves in the photos. I love the sign asking people to respect the dead and keep silent!
I then grabbed a cold drink and a bun for Jay (who is resting) and was served by an 84 year old woman. I guess that means I have another 10 years of work left in me! The photos are a selection taken from the last 2 days. Tomorrow is 25 April, so Jay and I are wearing our poppies. Here it is the Portuguese National Day and there is a festival on in the village. We might forgo part of our walk tomorrow to see the local celebration.
